Documentary Photographer, Photojournalist and Multidisciplinary Artist

Etinosa Yvonne is a self-taught documentary photographer, photojournalist and multidisciplinary artist based in Abuja, Nigeria. She works with a range of media, including photographs, videos, texts, sculptures, performances, and installations. The primary focus of her work is the exploration of themes related to culture, religion, tradition, the environment, the human condition and social injustice.

Her long-term project It’s All In My Head, which began as a photography project in 2018 but morphed into a multimedia project has received numerous grants and awards from prestigious organizations including the National Geographic Society, CARE in partnership with The Rockefeller Foundation, Art X, Royal Photographic Society and Women Photograph.

Etinosa’s commitment to leveraging the transformative power of art has led her to work and collaborate with various organisations and individuals. Her particular attention to social issues led to a special commission by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), New York in 2019.

Her works have been shown in various local and international exhibitions including the National Museum, Cross River State, Nigeria; Irpino Visual Anthropological Museum, Italy; 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Germany; Fitchburg Art Museum, Massachusetts, United States; African American Museum in Philadelphia, United States; and International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, Geneva, Switzerland.

Her personal and commissioned photography projects have been published in several international publications including DER SPIEGEL, The Passenger Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, El País Semanal, Spain, Al Jazeera, Metro UK, Sierra Magazine USA, The Guardian UK, Black+White Photography Magazine UK, Alternatives Économiques France, NPR USA, and PDN Magazine USA.

As someone who is committed to seeking new ways to push the boundaries of storytelling, Etinosa has participated in several residencies and workshops including a three-month art research residency at Gasworks in London, Voice and PhotoVogue Digital NFT Residency, and the Electric South Immersive Lab in South Africa.

Over the past few years, she has taken on key leadership roles, including mentoring emerging photographers and peers, teaching and hosting photography workshops ,organising fundraisers, and managing complex creative projects, amongst other duties. Etinosa regularly works on personal and commissioned projects in Nigeria and different parts of the world.

At the 10th conference, she will speak on “Photography: A Vital Tool for Stability in the 21st Century”.
